Can someone explain to me the nouveau riche affection for classical architecture? It seems rather universal…I mean…even Mexican drug lords!

I think it might have to do with being able to prove that you watched the entire series of i claudius.

That would be a fun study to conduct!

It would be great. What home furnishing did you purchased based on the the color of the gown Livia wore when she gave the order to kill her husband?

I wish it was “I, Claudius” but I have a feeling it has to do more with “Scarface” and other mobster flicks than anything that remotely resembles the ancient world.

That explains the drug lords but what about the other home styling challenged folks. Remember some of the southern plantations of the south were also based on classical architecture.

It definitely has to do with the notion of power that the Roman world represented. In the South, I’m sure it had to do with the idea of dominion over land and people…the true idea of “empire.”
