AppleTV Going to Cash In?

The Texas Language Technology Center (at UT Austin) burst part of my AppleTV bubble when they clarified something in my last post 🙁

No matter, the indie podcasts are more my style anyway.

Well, not sure exactly what was clarified or what bubble was burst.

But as relates to the possible recording capbilities of Apple TV … I would of course like there to be DVR/PVR capabilities – hey, maybe someone will hack it, um, with quite a bit of work – but officially supported, by Apple?

Best guess is that TV recording is not in the short-term Apple business plan for Apple TV, but maybe longer term. Just a wild guess.

No bubble-bursting intended, in any case. Happy bubbles.

Indie podcasts do seem to be a possible extra market for the box (esp HD vodcasts). And if that’s what you want … a great feature. Along with higher res photo display, one of the less publicized and potentially useful capabilities.

Actually, as Apple’s strategy is to sell hardware by virtue of offering useful and accessible software, we could hope for incremental software improvements … which might actually cause more people to purchase the (Apple TV) hardware. And among such improvements is certainly PVR recording. One could hope.

At the same time, it’s hard to see Apple steering us away from the iTunes store, in the shorter term. It’s a business model I don’t really relate to, in totality, but it’s not that difficult to see how the business parts interrelate. Just hard to see PVR in that scenario – hope I’m wrong.

Thanks for the additional clarification…I guess I dreamt that Apple would abandon its iTunes store monopoly and open up to competition, but you’re right, there is little hope for that. Oh, perchance to dream…
