Anti-War Medals

antiwarmedal.jpgThese clever designs by Mike & Maaike (aka Mike Simonian & Maaike Evers), are composed of four 3″ x 3″pins made of sterling silver.

Originally designed for a 2003 exhibition of “Anti-War Medals” at Velvet da Vinci in San Francisco, CA (Nov. 1-20), they are minimalistic, clever and came at a time when anti-war sentiments in America were being hounded by right-wing elements of our society that couldn’t stomach debate. The need for quiet dissent is the allure of these forms.

Not entirely successful as brooches, they are a clever solution to a galvanizing issue.
