Today is Blog Action Day…learn more.
If I had to pick my 5 favorite enviro-themed art works, they would be:
- Robert Smithson’s “Spiral Jetty” (1970);
- Kim Holleman’s “Fiji Falls” (2005);
- Andy Goldsworthy “Yellow elm leaves laid over a rock low water” (1991);
- Robert Smithson’s “Island of Broken Glass” (unrealized, 1969)—an interesting write-up about this work is in this encyclopedia entry: and
- Charles Stankievech’s “Island of Discarded Plastic (Leonia)” (2006) —which is appropriately based on Smithson’s never executed “Island of Broken Glass” and taught me something I never knew…Venice DOES NOT recycle!
{Btw, Onnik spoke too soon–the truth is I was just too busy to get to this until now}
