A review of HELVETICA: THE MOVIE

A week ago Jason Kottke downplayed the MoMA’s Helvetica exhibitini but I think it’s eons better than the movie.

All the designers in the movie come across as self-absorbed. The doc is pretty dull and fonts don’t lend themselves well to the medium of film.Though the best snide remark was by one designer who said “Helvetica is responsible for the Iraqi war.” She’s probably right.

My review of the MoMA exhibit was a personal favorite of my pieces this year because it tested my assumptions about font criticism.
