Why would adults force children to reenact a gas attack and experience such a horrific scene of slaughter? To what end?

Iraqi Kurdish children performed during a ceremony commemorating the 21st anniversary gas attack on Halabja, by Saddam Hussein’s government, 160 miles northeast of Baghdad. Some 5,600 people were killed when Mr. Hussein ordered the attack in Halabja in an attempt to crush a Kurdish rebellion in the north.
