Supposedly the Vatican wants a pro-lifer in the post…when does a country (or in this case a pseudo-country) get to decide the beliefs of their ambassador? This would set a dangerous precedent, no?

Critic Christopher Knight gives us some context for Ozkaya's recent work for newspapers around the world…seems Dave Muller may have been the source for the concept:
"His museum survey was organized by the Center for Curatorial Studies Museum at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. Five years earlier — on May 18, 1997, the day Muller's 'Millenium' appeared on and as The Times' front page — a young, Istanbul-born artist was hard at work as a student in the graduate art program at Bard. His name was Serkan Ozkaya."
The sad reality is that not only are Muller's images more interesting but they addressed the issues I raised with Ozkaya's work (the need for editorializing, etc.)…which begs the question, why did Ozkaya regress? (Hat tip Tyler Green)

Seems that one person thinks all this talk of art as a good investment is bullshit…she makes a convincing case & offers some good insights.
One response to “Caught My Eye”
The US really should break off diplomatic relations with the Vatican over this and for many other reasons. The biggest reason is that the Vatican was a creation of Mussolini in return for the Catholic Church’s support of his fascist regime.
