I just got a comment from Tseika in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, who had this local perspective on a story I wrote (May 20) about the Art Party running a fictional candidate in Mongolia’s presidential election:
Yup, Mongolian art workers did it about “Election-Art”… We wanna say like:
-Dig your HEAD… /We are voters…/
Oh by the way, the election point is: The Democratic won… We’d happy abt Mongolian new president… Ohhhh,
The May 24 election ended with an electoral loss by incumbent Nambaryn Enkhbayar of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party to Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj of the Democratic Party.
According to Wikipedia:
Elbegdorj will be Mongolia’s first president to never have been a member of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party...He is the co-author and co-adopter of Mongolia’s new Constitution that guarantees democracy, human rights, and freedom. He is the founder of the first independent newspaper in Mongolia. He also led the privatization of animals from post-Soviet collectivization back to private herders.
Final results (via Wiki):
- Elbegdorj — 51.24% of the popular vote (1,083,264 ballots)
- Enkhbayar — 47.4%
Here’s an article by The Times of London about the election results.
