Street Rothkos (photos)

The Los Angeles street photographer known as Lord Jim has a very beautiful set on his Flickr page titled Street Rothkos that explores the beauty of “buffed” street art spots in LA, strange paint jobs and lovely juxtapositions of color. Though Lord Jim calls them Rothkos, they remind me of a geometric Clyfford Still or Nicholas de Stael.

The whole set is here.

The set inspired me to revisit some of my own buffed shots from New Orleans that recorded some of the eerie beauty that NOLA’s anti-graff fanatic Fred Radtke actually left in the wake of his own controversial buffs.

Zigzag

My NOLA set is here.
