Two exhibitions in New York and London take a good hard look at marginalized LGBT groups, one historic and one contemporary.

The Making of a Queer Mecca at Leslie/Lohman Gallery in New York (September 15 – October 23, 2009)

A new exhibition of the early work of San Francisco’s Rink Foto, who was a friend and photographer of Harvey Milk, Robert Mapplethorpe and Andy Warhol. The show selects from Foto’s almost half a million images to tell the story of the City by the Bay’s ascendancy into becoming an epicenter of the 1970s gay and lesbian movement.
